My wife's g20 is an automatic. It's having issues shifting from "park" to "Drive" or anything else. When we start the car, press on the brake pedal and try to shift out of Park we cannot depress the safety button on the shifter. Sometimes it works correctly (one attempt) while sometimes the button won't push in until the 20th or more time. I believe the problem to be in the shifter. Something worn out that needs replacing? Anybody have experience with this?

Is the button out of alignment at all or worn out on the sifter? Here are a few things to check:

1. Double check the alignment of your automatic transmission's inhibitor switch -
2. Check the wiring harness on the right side of the trunk for broken tail-light wires; key is to confirm that the brake lights are turning fully on before trying to shift out of P. Of the break pedal has to be pressed super hard for the lights to come on, you may need to adjust the location of the brake light switch on the pedal so switch is released sooner.
