I just changed the fluid in my manny tranny on the 1996 G yesterday. I performed this on the 1995 G nearly two years ago as well.

REDLINE MT90 is a FULL synthetic manual transmission fluid. Our applications take approx. 3 7/8 quarts. The cost per quart is approx $8.50.

Total cost: $34
Time spent: 45 minutes
Rating of product: 9 out of 10
Skill level to perform job: Low.
Tools needed: Basic

PROS:
* Improved smoothness while shifting.
* Claimed increase of a hp or two, though didn't notice this...just the improved shifting between gears.
* Fairly easy to change the fluid, similar to an engine oil change.

CONS:
* $8.50 per quart for REDLINE vs. around $2.00 a quart for regular gear oil.

I use that too!

What I found (especially in my VW) is that is makes for easier shifting in the cold too! (just overall feels smoother)

best price I could find on it is from OG racing (www.ogracing.com)

I think it was $7.75 each if I recall correctly!

where can you get this stuff

You need to find a dealer that sells REDLINE. Some speed shops stock it, but you can search by the use of your zip code....see link:

I strongly recommend you call the shop before you drive down there. Some do NOT carry the MT90 fluid or they are out of stock...save yourself a wasted trip and call.

My local autoparts carries some other brands of synthetic gear oil like Valvoline and Mobil, anybody have any experience with these brands?

+2...and I took fresh factory fluid out to put the MT-90 in. BIG improvement...and a noticeable increase in MPG. Not sure how much yet...but I'm on a 1/4 of a tank when normally I would have had to fill up. So, I'd guess at least 1 mpg better...

YRMV...but if it is true, it's well worth the extra $$$.
