I have a 99 G20 (42,000 mil) When I start it up in the morning, it revs up to 1700 rpm and it takes at least a minute for it to get down to 1000 rpm. I live in s. california, it's pretty warm down here, but fairly cool in my garage overnight. Is it normal for the rpm to be that high when the engine's completely cool? I asked a mechanic and a guy at the dealer, but they both seemed to give me vague answers. Any thoughts?

That doesn't sound that far off. Even in Tucson/Phoenix (which is still very warm at night) my car will high idle to warm up in the mornings. But then usually any other time during the day after it's been started (or out in the sun for a while) it won't need idle high to warm up and when i start the car the needle is already part way to being at normal operating temp.

thanks... yeah, rpm's fine the rest of the day. Can I ask you another thing... Do I need OEM fuel and air filters for my car?
