Hey,

I will be in Columbia SC for a 4 day weekend Feb 6th-9th for a promising Job interview. If anyone wants to get together i am assuming I wont have much to do nights. I will not have either of my G's =-( I will be flying in and driving a rental. it will feel like im cheating on my old clunkers driving something new and high tech but i cant swing 22 hours solo driving for a weekend stay.

i am also welcoming any tips you southern boys can offer regarding Life in South Carolina. i've been a PA resident my entire life so a big move is a bit scary but the job has serious potential and the timing is right.

I'm gonna send you a PM with my cell number, feel free to text me with any questions you may have about Cola!
Thanks for lettin me hang out at your shop Bryan.

If anyone else cares the interview went very well. I might scrambling to find a place before i move next month. management said they would do a little research for me since they are hiring a few other new chemists as well and it might help them out in the long run for short term or extended housing for new hires.

Congrats on the job! It's always good to meet another forum member.

sad to see you leave PA, but PA is to $$$ to live in....

now only if i could talk my wife into leavign the north east
The job isnt 100% yet. im still waiting on the official offer letter from HR. i just hope the owner and management hold up to their word in the offer, if they do im southward bound.

congrats Green...

Actually steve, my area of PA is DIRT cheap. i am seeing cost of living increases with the move, large university means more $$ for housing, and a yearly vehicle property tax is new to me, i am sure summer ac costs will just about offset the heat costs since atm my heating nat gas is cheap. gas money should drop significantly without the $.50 per gallon tax PA has, but that will be offset by my increase medical and other insurance costs.

2 days back home in the cold and snow after 2 days in 60 deg has me wanting to go back asap.
Offer email came in late tonight. im excited and terrified at the same time. the move is going to happen =-) hourly rate is just under $2 more per hour than my current salary works out to be, the new position has a chance for a good chunk of overtime, an extra week of vacation, a 401k plan that i currently dont have at all, they will pay $2000 for relocation. insurance plan is better but costs a bit more out of pocket.

it will not be an issue but i am disappointed that they do drug screening. i will pass without a doubt but i still dont like the idea of testing.

should i try to negotiate the hourly rate?
I hear yah on the drug testing. Drug free here too and drug testing sucks balls. But us Asians have crazy issues. ;)

Everything I've heard says you should try to negotiate salary. Clearly they want you, and that first offer has to have some wiggle room.

Personally, I suck at negotiating, so I'd probably take it like a bitch. =/

Fun times in SC ahead!
Health insurance requirements in this state pretty much end up with every employer doing mandatory drug screening. It's BS, but I've only had one job that didn't test.
well, the week of sleepless nights letting them sweat out the open offer paid off! i accepted a counter-counter offer for $1/hour over the initial offer they sent me, not much more but it basically pays my insurance on top of the raise in pay i will be seeing =-). i start march 24th. ill probably be making the first drive over night or super early morning on the 22nd/23rd.

Bryon, if your friend decides he wants the p10 by the end of march i can drive down in it, otherwise ill be bringing the p11 and towing the p10 down on a dolly later when i bring a uhaul with furniture. i was also gonna ask if you could give my bike a tuneup and all that when i get down there with the uhaul in april or may, i bought all new jets for the carb this winter with the intentions of actually riding it this summer unlike last.
Im officially a southern G now. spent my first 24 hours living outside of PA.
