SR20DE with GTX2867R

I'm going to play around with the Garrett GTX 2867R turbo on my DD to see what the SR20DE feels like compared to the Journal bearing GT28 that I have been running. Should be extremely responsive with the .64 and have enough flow to blow up the DE :)

This is going to be the setup

99' Stock SR20DE 9.5:1
Stock low port head and intake
Stock TB and MAF
Tomei 143043 S13 Cams
Factory GTIR cast manifold - AN6 added for EGR
Garrett dual BB GTX 2867R turbo .64 housing
Internal wastegate 12psi - AEM boost controlled @ 20PSI
93 octane with 50/50 meth/water
OBDI Dist with MSD 6AL / Blaster HVC ignition
BKR7EIX gapped @ .20
AEM FIC8 with 99' G20 5 speed ECU
All 3" exhaust out from the turbo (Jpipe/Cat/Muffler)
2.5" Intercooler tubing - 3" In/Out 31x12x3 Intercooler
All options - Full street setup. Factory EGR/3" Cat/functional AC car.

I have been wanting to build a GT3071R or GTX series DE for awhile. The maps are real close between them. Found this overlay on the net: (RED=GTX2867R - Blue=GT3071R)

Hopefully the weather warms up a bit so we can start this weekend. After we get it street tuned real good I'll take it to the dyno.

Sweet! I'll be interested to see the results. That's a fairly new model, right? What injector/MAF combo are you running?

Yep, the GTX is the latest Garrett technology. Right now I'm still on stock MAF and 500cc. I have 750cc injectors sitting if I need more fuel. MAF really doesn't matter since I'm tuning by map.

Got the GTX2867R today, disassembled and cleaned it up a little. Cut the 3" inlet down for clearance. May pull her in tonight and start working early.

What engine management are you using?

It's all tore down again... Good news is the GTX fits GOOD! Bad news is that I found a couple leaks, a broken boot, also need to replace the struts while I'm in there...

AEM FIC6 - Wiring done by me :)

That wiring looks like a blast...They couldn't provide a few different color wires to help you out? What a nightmare trying to keep them straight!

I just use the same color wire when I make the harness at work. After you wire several in a row it's not to hard to keep them straight :)
My brother came over and helped me work on the G Saturday. Had a lot of little things to tackle. The rear motor mount came loose and needed work also took out the transmission mount. James welded up some new ones. New front struts. Replaced a boot on the power steering rack. Installed 2 new tie rod ends. Made a oil restrictor for the BB turbo. It is .047 diameter. Had to make water/oil fittings for the Garrett, my GT28 fittings were different :( Garrett water was M14x1.5 and Oil M11x1 (7/16x24). Turbo / manifold / lines are installed. The new downpipe is complete and the whole exhaust is up but not sealed yet. Still need to make a custom actuator bracket.... Would have got more done but I was sick all Sunday....

Finished almost everything. Started it and found a water leak on the backside that I will have to fix tomorrow :( put the bumper cover back on and test drive it..

nice progress!!! where did you get that -an fitting????
Cool Im planing on replacing my gt2872r with this turbo but want to use the atp 82ar turbine housing with twin scroll.
current 71r has .86 ar housing.

When I finish rebuilding my de Im yawing 10.5/1 comp forged pistons I should have instant tq
How much boost are you shooting for with 10.5:1 comp?

We used a .86 housing on my brothers DET/2871 and ended up switching back to a .64. The .86 had soooo much lag on the 8.5:1 engine that it wasn't near as fun on the street.
Currently Im on a log manifold currently I'm using a log manifold. A .64 housing would spool quicker but I'm hitting full boost at 4k but making tq very well down low.
I have no indefinite boost target for the de just instant response and possibly 350whp more if traction permits and less if traction does not. I use water me injection but a forgedvpiston at that compression will take a lot
Had some leaky water banjos on the turbo... Took all day to replace and get the car back together.. Finally out of the garage but we got snow and ice today so I couldn't really play. I did find a few strips of pavement that I could get traction on and it was getting boost as early as 1500 RPM... Has a lot higher pitch than the journal bearing GT28 that I had in it. Can't wait for some good weather now!

Another note on the GTX2867R - I saw a shop build a Audi 2.0L with a GTX2867R and they started with the .86 housing. After lots of dyno time they ended up using a .64 housing and over 400 awhp on pump gas/water/meth.
What year is your P11? What harness are you using? In conjunction with the aem FIC setup?
It's all factory 1999 G20 stuff. 99' Manual computer, 99' Auto harness, Fic6 with patch harness. The only other wiring done to the car is the MSD 6AL/Blaster/91' OBDI distributor. The only reason I added that is because I want the best spark I can get with high compression + cams and lots of boost.
