I have a 1994 P10 5-speed and my Tach bounces and after a 1/2 hour of driving it will stop working. I do not use the tach, but the bouncing and when it stops working is a nuisance. If not a costly fix I will attempt it, but if a big job...
Any input would be helpful.

Just swap out tach with one from another cluster...

General consensus is that it is either a failed solder joint or electrolytic capacitor on the tachometer's circuit board.

Either you'll know how to fix this, or you shouldn't. Replacing the gauge is easiest.

I have a used cluster from a car that had an automatic transmission, will this work? Or, do I need to get a used tach from a manual transmission car?

Might work, redline will be in the wrong place though. I don't know if 91-93 and 93.5-96 tachs are interchangeable. The faces are different, I don't know if they changed anything else.

I wouldn't say stumped. It probably works I just wouldn't ever try to do it. If you buy the right part for your car, it works.

I will look for a replacement tach for that year and for a manual transmission. This will be my end of the year project.
