Tail Lamp Short HELP PLZ

651 Views 5 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  manjuice
So every time I turn on the headlights the tail lamp fuse blows instantly. I disconnected the trunk harness to make sure it wasn't the harness or bulb sockets and the fuse still popped. So obviously there is a short somewhere... Anyone have any idea what i should check next?

THANKS!

Use a test light in place of the fuse. Get 2 male spade terminals and make up wire ends. Then leave the test light (or other 12v bulb) in that fuses place. Then turn the lights on. Start unplugging everything. If the light goes out then you know where the short was. It will be on as long as any bulbs are in and running so those will need to be unplugged. Eventually if nothing then its in the harness

Check the circuit diagram too and make a not of all the components that fuse supply's power to
what have you done recently to the car? Did you put clear side markers on or anything that maybe you have a pinched wire?
Thank Charles! It had to do with wiring behind the fuse to those connector by the kick panel. Your method was really useful. I appreciate it :)
