I've read the posts regarding replacement of the hydrolic shocks that assist in opening the trunk. I went out and bought replacement shocks but I cannot seem to get the existing ones off.

The previous threads say to pound on the shock from the inside to pop them off. I tried this but the little ball-in-socket joints just stay put. I actually managed to bend the shock a bit, leaking the fluid and making the trunk very hard to open and close.

Any suggestions from those out there who have done this?
