P10 Power Window Problems...

My (front) windows are not working.

The passenger side one is fairly obvious. My former (!) GF slammed! the door after getting out one day, and the half-lowered window fell to the bottom of its tracks. Busted regulator. Bloody women. I pulled the door panel off, raised the window and locked it at the top. (and ignored it for >3 years)

New regulator needed here, I guess.

Last night my driver side window went down as normal, but refused! to come back up. Pulled that door panel apart and got the window up, but found that it would only move a certain distance up before stopping again. Hitting the switch up or down produces an audible 'click' from somewhere inside the door, but nothing from the motor. Pulling the window up sharply allows things to move again, but it stops again after 4 inches or so. Another quick pull allows it to close completely.

The window still goes down with no binding or hesitation.

I'm guessing that the motor has a burnt spot on its armature, or something similar. Should I replace the entire motor & regulator as a unit, or is it possible that there's a problem with the amp?

I can get all teh parts off eBay, but I'd hate to order more (or less!) than I need to get the job done.

Suggestions?

Sounds like what happened to me. The wires that went from the motor to the regulator frayed and started to become bound up inside the regulator. Time for a new regulator.. Motors rarely go on these doors

EDIT : just noticed a horrid grinding noise when the window is fully closed - sounds like the gear (or whatever) is slipping. It still stops at the same approx spots on the way up, though.

Motor and regulator only, or will I need to replace the amp as well?

regulator, the amp usually only needs to be resoldered, if you have a camera you can take the circuit board out of the amp and post close up pics and we can tell you if the amp needs soldering or replacing, if the amp out then you won't here any noises at all except the click of the switch
