cleaning/grease when changing steering rack boots

Planning to change the torn boots on the steering rack (both sides). Do I need to clean the inside after removing the old ones? What do I use to clean it? Do I have to put new grease on? People mentioned it is the general purpose grease. Is it right?
Please help! Thanks.

You are correct on all points. Clean it up, and regrease.
