i just installed my new deck and my 12 inch kicker comp solobaric sub...but for some reason, its not hitting as hard as i like. I got an mtx 8302 amp so it should bump pretty hard. Plus the rear speakers seem to be distoring as i turn up the volume. Anyone know whats wrong? Am i supposed to hook the system up differently?

Um, there could be a bunch of different issues here, I guess we should start with the obvious:

- whats your sub RMS rating and how many watts does the amp push?
- is your sub wired to the correct ohm load you wanted/the amp can handle?
- are you using the right gauge wire/are all your power connections tight?

well, it says 425 x 1 for wattage and its a kicker solobaric...so i know it can handle it...but i only used 8 gauge wires
8awg wire fine.....

Here's the spec.
120 Watts x 2 into 4 Ohms
212 Watts x 2 into 2 Ohms
425 Watts bridged into 4 Ohms

Your subwoofer should be a "dual 2ohm" and wired in "series" to get the final load of 4ohm... Then check the amp to make sure its been bridged, also check the gain and make sure its not way down.

My guess is it has something to do with wiring.......

 Assuming that you have the right polarity, have you adjusted the gain/input level yet?
(Sorry if I offend you, but I just wanted to make sure the basics were covered.....)

oh, not offened at all...yeah all of the settings are set right on the amp. i dont know what to do and whats wrong, ahh...anything else u can think of that might help?
Well, the only option would be to have another pro take a look at it. Unless we all can see the entire setup, we'd all be wild guessing at the problem.

I hope you are not using your stock head unit? If you are, then that’s your problem... You need to do one or two of the fallowing:
Buy a head unit with RCA outs for a subwoofer..
Or buy a cross over to filter your sound, and you can normally boost your bass 12db around 40hz, you will also be able to filter out all high frequencies.

Also what is the exact model number on your sub? It was mentioned here that your sub is dual 2-ohm voice coil. That is not always true. Kicker make there comp subs with dual 2-ohm voice coils or dual 4-ohm voice coils. Putting a 2 ohm load into a 4 ohm sub will not allow your sub to function properly, and you will shorten the life span of your sub. So please post the exact model number of your sub.

Also the MTX 8302 is measured at 425 x 1 watts PEAK at 4-ohms (not 2-ohms, it only runs at 4 ohms in a bridged mode). That is the peak power, which means you will not always be getting 425 watts (the RMS rating is 300 watts).
