After 78,000 miles on the stock rotors & pads, I figured it was about time to change 'em. I opted for the Brembo Slotted & Crossdrilled rotors and Hawk HP pads. Install was a breeze, about an hour and I was taking my time.

I drove the car around slowly and tried the brakes, to get them seated. A few moderate stops from 20-30mph. I let them cool and tried a couple more stops at 40mph. Now they are working very good. I haven't really panic stopped with them yet, since they are new and need to be broken in properly. But my first impressions are very positive.....except for the next paragraph.

The only issue I had was the grinding noise for the first 50 miles or so....pretty embarassing. The noise is slowly disappearing away. I'm going to drive the car to work tomorrow instead of my commuter Toyota truck. That's 90 miles roundtrip, that should break them in and hopefully get them silent again. :)

I'll post more impressions on the brakes later in the week after I get some miles on them. I can take a pic as well.....

Thanks for the info on that.
They seem to grip very well, though....
We shall see if I can tolerate the noise. Personally, I like something quiet ;)

ok, did the rear brakes yesterday. not too bad....

Drove for approx 30 miles today. The fronts have quieted up a bit, but the rears are fairly noisy when you hit them, something to do with the slotted/crossdrilled rotors breakin' in. The noise is not what I like, but hopefully they will quiet down some more.

ALso, talk about brake dust from hell.....jeez, hopefully it is only because they are breaking in. ...and i've been fairly gentle on them during break-in. :-\

Will post more later in the week to give everyone who was considering this brake setup..........feedback.

hmmmmm.....noise and brake dusgt ....this thread is sounding to good guyz....:paranoid:

EXACTLY...! I'm posting this topic and following up frequently to keep the others informed. If I would have known there was excess brake dust and noise, I most likely would have not chosen the slotted/crossdrilled rotors. :-\

Hopefully they will "break-in" and get quieter/less dust. (sigh) time shall tell....

Maybe you can try other pads? Maybe the brake pad compounds are differ...?

I have the Hawk HP pads in front and Nissan stock pads in the rear. The rears are the noisy bastards...!!!! If they don't quiet up in another week, i'm changing them to Hawk's.

bringing up old thread....hows the noise and dust now with the Brembo....I gotta change my brakes soon.....they starting to squeal on me...

Hopefullly less noise and dust by now......:paranoid:

Hey there,

The dust is very low now. I believe they are broke-in now....about 500 miles on them. Now, here's the bad news. Noisy as hell. It seems like the rears are making the most noise (IE: pull up the hand-brake and I hear 'em). I have the stock NISSAN pads in the rear -damn $40/set and they suck for noise. Yup, every time I hit the brakes, I hear a noise which appears to be every time the rotor turns and the slotted part makes contact with the pad. You remember as a kid when you put the card in the spokes??? ---that's exactly what it sounds like when petal pressure is applied. :(

Here's the deal.

PRO'S: Braking has improved -no doubt. They look very sporty.
CON'S: lots of brake dust while breaking-in. NOISE SUCKS...!

If I would have known about the noise, I probably never would have installed them. Would have remained stock. :-\

go ahead and get the Brembo's. The rotor will only make noise for the break in period of 2500 miles. But as far as pads go, I'd stick with stock or maybe Metal Masters or some Axxis pads.
so you are saying this crappy noise will go away after 2500 miles???

Glad you like the POWERSLOTS....I should have kept them. The slotted and crossdrilled are noisy. But only the rears.....they fronts are quiet. I think I'm going to change the rear pads...they are probably the reason for the noise. And I thought stock Nissan pads were a good choice....guess not for crossdrilled & slotted. $40 down the drain ;)
