P11 owners, how many miles can you get on a tankful?

I ve gotten 465 so far, I have an 01G20T with the auto trans.

Filled it with 16 gallons of regular unleaded, hoping to get close to 500 miles on a tank when I go on my trip to Southern Cal and San Diego in a few weeks.

I consistently get 445 a tank, this is without being a leadfoot and getting on it all the time.

One thing I do and have done with all my cars is that I ve run the tank all the way to almost empty, and the light is on and all. Thats why I was able to stuff about 16 gallons into my tank!

I ve heard that its not good to run the tank all the way down to almost nothing, but in my experience, I ve never had anything go wrong in doing that. I like to know the limits of the gas guage and the tank.

its not a good idea to run your tank completely empty. you're not getting any better or worse gas mileage by filling up before the light comes on so whats the point? your fuel pump relys on gas to keep it lubricated so if its constantly being deprived of extra gas for lube it will in fact shorten the lifespan of the pump.

Remember to not run your tank dry for too long if you can help it as the gasoline cools the fuel pump.
two good points to think about, otto, but heck, if you havent had trouble with it i wouldnt worry too much ;)

but damn, these cars are pretty picky sometimes....

From Spokane to Seattle (286 miles) on 2/3rd tank of gas.
19* timing, intake & exaust. Not too shabby.

I recently just put on the I/H/E so I'll need to recalculate the total. :geek:

Being that I only drive the P11 to work & home (7 mile radius) and I currently have 3/4 or so gas, it may take me a couple weeks before I fill'er up!

I always get at least 32 mpg. usually around 33 though. Its the same trip every day, 120 km to work, 120 back...mostly township roads/highway. And I only use Esso gas.

I thought it would be opposite, but I get about 32 mpg when I'm averaging 80mph, but only about 30 when I slow down to 70 mpg on the interstate. It drops off sharply however if I drive at a constant 85-90mph though to about 29mpg. I guess that 78-80 is the sweet spot for my car.

that makes no sense that if you go 80 you would get better mpg that at 70mph. the higher the rpm should not = to better mpg.

When I get close to 500 miles per tank, I am very conservative on the gas pedal.
